It looks like the Masters of the Universe Classics and DC Universe lines will continue through 2013. Things were looking “iffy” whether Matty would receive the minimum number of orders for each line of figures, but it was announced today by Toy Guru that both lines will move forward into next year.
At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, Mattel announced the winner of its “Create a Character” contest. The guy who designed Castle Grayskullman also made his own retro commercial for his winning character. Congrats to Daniel Benedict and well done.
After 1,300 entries, MattyCollector.com selected their first ever “Create a Character” contest winner. Daniel Benedict came up with the design for this Castle Grayskullman toy that incorporates details from the vintage playset. According to the announcement on the company’s website “The panel of eight judges included members of Mattel’s marketing, entertainment, packaging, and design departments. They evaluated each entry, looking for concepts that had an original name and look, used approximately 50% shared parts, were easily translated into a toy, and fit into the world of MOTU.” The winner and five runners-up will each receive a Club Eternia membership for 2013.
